Four mini implants are placed in the lower jaw and the denture snaps onto them. This is the usual answer to the single most common complaint about lower dentures, which is that they lift when you eat and talk.
Missing back teeth make chewing hard and quietly narrow what you eat. Dentures give you a full biting surface again.
Front teeth shape sound. Replacing them usually clears up the whistle or slur that missing teeth cause.
Teeth hold up the lips and cheeks. Without them the face gradually sinks around the mouth, which is what makes people look older than they are.
Replacing a full arch with individual implants runs into many thousands of dollars. A complete denture is the option that puts a full set of teeth within reach.
No one tells you this part in an advertisement, so we will. None of it is a reason not to go ahead — it is simply what to expect.
New dentures feel bulky and can rub sore spots for the first few weeks. This is normal and it is what the follow-up adjustment visits are for. Most people settle in within a month or two.
An upper denture seals against the palate. A lower one has no seal and sits on a narrow ridge with the tongue underneath it, so it is less stable. That is the honest reason the implant-retained option exists.
Bone slowly reshapes after teeth are removed, so a denture that fit perfectly will loosen over the years. A reline refits it to the new shape — expect one every few years rather than a new denture.
Very hard, sticky, or chewy things are harder with any removable denture. Most people manage everything else. If that is the sticking point, implants are worth asking about.

Healing takes weeks
Teeth that cannot be kept come out first. Gums need time to heal before a conventional denture is fitted — unless you choose an immediate denture, which goes in the same day.

We take moulds of your gums and measure how your jaws meet. This is what the denture is built from, so it is worth the time it takes.

You see a wax version with the teeth set in place, and we check the bite, the fit, and how it looks. Say something here if the shape or shade is not right — this is the stage where it is easy to change.

The finished denture goes in. We check the bite again, and show you how to put it in, take it out, and clean it.

Come back when something rubs. Sore spots are normal at the start and take minutes to fix. Do not wait it out and do not file it down yourself.

That is the point of the try-in stage. You see the teeth set in wax before anything is finished, and the shape, size, and shade can all be changed then. Bring a photo of yourself from before you lost the teeth if you have one — it helps.
Taking impressions and fitting the denture do not hurt. If teeth need to come out first, that is done with anaesthetic and the soreness afterward is managed with ordinary pain relief. The rubbing in the first weeks is the part people notice, and adjustments fix it.
Start with soft food cut small, and chew on both sides at once to keep the denture level. Most people are eating most things within a few weeks. Very hard and sticky foods stay awkward.
The denture itself usually lasts several years. What changes sooner is your jaw, so the more common need is a reline to refit it rather than a replacement. We check the fit at your regular visits.
Yes, in almost every case. Your gums need the rest, and leaving a denture in overnight makes sore spots and infections more likely. Clean it and leave it in water.

Yes — that is what an immediate denture is for. It is made before the extractions from moulds taken in advance, and goes in straight away so you are never without teeth. It needs a reline once your gums have healed.
This is the most common complaint with lower dentures and it is not something you are doing wrong — there is no suction on the lower jaw. A reline helps if the fit has loosened. If it has never been stable, four mini implants let the denture snap into place and stay there.
